ArmInfo. Historically, Armenia and Russia have had friendly relations. Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk stated on December 15 at a meeting of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
He noted that these relations are based on the principles of mutual respect. Russia and Armenia are allies, and intense and trusting dialogue at the highest level creates high dynamics in allied relations. Overchuk recalled that Russia is Armenia's leading trading partner. Trade turnover between Armenia and Russia for 9 months of 2023 increased by 43.5% and amounted to $4.4 billion. At the same time, as the Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted, parity in mutual trade has been achieved between the countries. Particularly serious indicators were recorded in the supply of agricultural products and trade in metals.
Overchuk also pointed out the importance of the opening of a representative office of the Russian Export Center this morning in Yerevan, through efforts of which, support was provided for 302 unique exporters in 507 transactions during 10 months of this year in promoting Russian products to the Armenian market. The deputy chairman of the Russian government also pointed to the development of investment cooperation with Armenia, where more than 40 large companies with Russian capital operate, some of which are the country's largest taxpayers. 10 contracts have been concluded between Russian and Armenian companies for the supply of wheat, buckwheat, oatmeal and other goods to Yerevan.
Overchuk also emphasized that cooperation in the banking and financial sector is developing between the countries. In Jan- September of this year, the share of the Russian ruble in overall calculation between Russia and Armenia totaled 90.3%.
On the transport line, work continues on previously reached agreements. The South Caucasus Railway CJSC operates in Armenia, which makes investments within the framework of a concession agreement. The volume of road transport is growing rapidly, which was greatly facilitated by the reconstruction of the international Upper Lars checkpoint. As a result of the work carried out, traffic was ensured on all 39 transport lanes, which made it possible to service 3,900 vehicles per day, but the problem of climatic conditions cannot ensure round-the-clock traffic volumes.
