ArmInfo. The period of driving of cars with foreign license plates will be limited in Armenia, except for the EAEU countries. Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan announced during a briefing on December 20, answering a question regarding customs clearance of cars with Georgian license plates.
In this context, he said that the Ministry of Economy has prepared relevant legislative changes, which it will present soon.
After the short-term assistance program, new regulations will be in force, which, according to Kerobyan, will not allow the long-term operation of cars with foreign license plates (with the exception of the EAEU countries).
On November 30, the RA government decided from December 5 to December 30, 2023 to subsidize customs clearance of cars imported to Armenia until December 4, inclusive, up to 70 percent, but with the condition that first the car owner would deposit the entire amount in full, after which the State Revenue Committee had to return the subsidized part.
From December 5 to December 30 inclusive, the owners of cars used for 5 years will pay 60% of the cost of customs clearance, the remaining 40% (VAT, customs duties) will be reimbursed by the state.
For cars used more than 5 years, the state will already compensate 70% of the costs of customs clearance.
According to 2023 data, the number of light passenger cars temporarily imported into the RA and not re- exported is about 9,000. It was noted that if these cars are registered and compensated by individuals in the RA, the net income of the state budget of the RA could amount to about 15.6 billion drams. As of December 12, within the framework of the program adopted by the Government of Armenia to reimburse the costs of customs clearance, 1,154 cars with foreign license plates have already undergone customs clearance.
