ArmInfo.The Armenian nuclear power plant will be shut down for scheduled maintenance (PPR) from May 15, Advisor to the General Director of the ANPP Gera Sevikyan told ArmInfo.
According to him, the station will be shut down for a period of 95 days. During the period of PPR-2024, it is necessary to carry out work to refuel the station and begin inspection of the main equipment in order to carry out work to re-extend the life of the second power unit of the ANPP. "There is a government decision on this program, budget funding has been opened, an agreement has been concluded with the contractor represented by Rusatom Service, so everything is going according to plan so far," Sevikyan said.
He added that the financial resources allocated by the Armenian government are still sufficient to implement the program, within the framework of which the supervisory body represented by the State Committee for Nuclear Safety Regulation must submit proposals for the implementation of priority work. This work will need to be carried out over the next two years in order to obtain a license to continue operating the nuclear power plant. There are also some other activities that are planned to be carried out in subsequent years, for example, to determine the problem of radioactive waste, the solution of which requires a long period of time.
On December 14 last year, the RA government decided to allocate $65 million for the implementation of the program for re-extending the life of the second power unit of the Armenian NPP (until 2036). Work on the implementation of the program will be carried out by Rusatom Service, with which a corresponding agreement has been concluded. The customer of the project will be the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, which will receive government funds in the form of a budget loan. By 2036, it is planned to put into operation a new nuclear unit, the capacity of which is still being discussed.
