ArmInfo.The delegation of the European Union led by the EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP).
According to the ANPP's press service, the guests were presented with the history of operation of the NPP and safety indicators, as well as implemented and ongoing projects at the NPP with the support of the European Union.
The parties discussed future plans and programs of the NPP. It is reported that the Armenian side highly appreciated the assistance provided by the EU, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation. According to the source, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has received $60 million in assistance since 1995, which was aimed at improving the safety and reliability of the plant.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Maragos assured that every effort will be made to further ensure strong cooperation and assistance.
Notably, the meeting was also attended by the acting chairman of the RA UN Committee, a representative of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an expert from the AOSA (Armenian On-Site Assistance) program.
Oon December 14 last year, the RA government decided to allocate $65 million for the implementation of the program for re-extending the life of the second power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (until 2036). Work on the implementation of the program will be carried out by Rusatom Service, with which a corresponding agreement has been concluded. The customer of the project will be the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, which will receive government funds in the form of a budget loan. A new nuclear power unit is planned to be put into operation by 2036, the capacity of which is still being discussed.
