European Commission to provide EUR 15mln to Armenia for forcibly  displaced Armenians

ArmInfo. The European Commission will provide Armenia with 15 million euros to overcome the  socio-economic difficulties caused by the influx of refugees from  Nagorno-Karabakh. At a meeting on June 20, the RA Government approved  a draft decree of the RA President on the approval of the agreement  on budget support, signed on February 15 and April 16 of this year.

According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher  Grigoryan, loan funds will be used to support the social and economic  sustainability of the Republic of Armenia, contribute to the short-  and medium-term program of the RA government to solve the problems of  internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, their long-term  socio-economic integration. The program is financed from the EU  budget within the framework of the Neighbourhood, Development and  International Cooperation Instrument. There are no plans for  co-financing from the Armenian side.

It is envisaged that financial resources will be used to resolve  issues related to providing one-time assistance to refugees, paying  for temporary housing and utility costs. The target beneficiaries of  the program will be women and socially vulnerable groups of the  population. It is also envisaged to provide assistance to  refugee-hosting communities in restoring socio-economic  infrastructure.
