Cattle productivity improvement programme to be launched in Armenia

The program to increase cattle productivity will be implemented in 200 settlements  of Shirak, Lori, Tavush, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions.  This was stated during a working meeting dedicated to this program, which took place at the Gyumri Breeding Station CJSC with the participation of Deputy Minister of Economy Tatevik Sargsyan, Governor of Shirak Mushegh Muradyan, Chairman of the Strategic  Development Agency Mkrtich Ayvazyan and industry representatives.

As part of this program, together with the Strategic Development  Agency, it is planned to establish a breeding station on the basis of  the Gyumri breeding station, which will contribute to the effective  implementation of the program, cattle productivity, etc. At the  moment, there are no analogues of such stations in Armenia.

As part of the program, the Strategic Development Agency will provide  technical assistance, retrain veterinarians and artificial  insemination specialists, and conduct information campaigns.

The program will be implemented with funding from the Austrian  Development Agency and the Swiss Agency for Development and  Cooperation. The latter's budget has not been reported.

According to the Statistics Committee, as of January 1, 2024, 491,594  head of cattle were registered in Armenia, which is 2% lower than the  figure a year ago.
