Currently, about 800 Armenian trucks are waiting for passage to Georgia through the MVC (multilateral vehicle checkpoint) "Upper Lars", Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attache of the Armenian Embassy in Russia, told ArmInfo correspondent. Earlier today, the traffic management center website of North Ossetia reported that the total number of idle trucks is 4035, of which 1163 are Armenian.
"Currently, there are about 800 Armenian trucks waiting to pass through the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian side of the border", noted Hakobyan.
According to him, the main reason for the congestion at Upper Lars is the overload of checkpoints during the tourist season.
"About 1,200 trucks cross the Russian-Georgian border every day, with approximately 25% being cars with Armenian license plates", the attache explained.
The Georgian Military Road is currently the only land route connecting Armenia with Russia.
