ArmInfo. According to the results of 2023, the main sugar import markets for Armenia were Russia and Brazil. Moreover, the share of Russian sugar exceeds the volumes of Brazilian sugar, while for many years Brazil was the main importer of sugar for Armenia.
In particular, according to customs data, in 2023, 36.2 thousand tons of sugar (52.3%) were imported from Russia to Armenia, 32.2 thousand tons (46.6%) from Brazil, and the remaining volumes were distributed between Belarus, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Mauritius. Very small volumes were imported from France, China, Switzerland, Paraguay, Lebanon, Germany, Lebanon, Colombia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, India, Mauritania, Laos, Poland and Spain. In total, over 69,166 thousand tons of sugar were imported in the reporting period, with a 9.6% annual decrease, and the customs value decreased by 4.2% to $41.6 million.
The lion's share of sugar exports also went to the Russian market (98.9%), the remaining volumes were supplied to the Georgian, American, Bahraini and Kazakh markets. The total volume of sugar exports amounted to 717.1 tons, which is 45.3% lower than the same period last year, with a 34.2% decrease in customs value to $814 thousand.
