ArmInfo. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will provide Armenia with a grant of 100 million drams for the restoration of flood-affected settlements in the Lori and Tavush regions of the republic.
At a meeting on August 8, the RA Government approved the draft decree of the RA President on the approval of the agreement with the Bank. As noted in the justification of the draft decree, it is planned to use the grant funds to provide humanitarian aid to citizens and settlements affected by the floods of May 25-26. The RA Ministry of Finance undertakes to ensure the targeted use of the above-mentioned funds, directing them to solving social, humanitarian and infrastructural problems.
On May 27, the RA government declared the affected areas a disaster zone. As a result of the flooding of the Dzoraget and Debed rivers, a number of settlements suffered extensive damage. In particular, vehicles were damaged, the first floors of a number of apartment buildings and private houses were completely flooded, gardens and crops were damaged or lost. Due to the severe flooding of the rivers, livestock breeders also lost cattle and small cattle. Hotel and restaurant complexes, catering outlets, shops, and service centers operating in the settlements suffered major losses. As a result of damage to infrastructure, a number of settlements were deprived of electricity, water supply, gas supply, communications, and the movement of people was also restricted. Destruction occurred in the areas adjacent to the M-4 and M-6 highways. The Ayrum railway station suffered extensive damage.
