269 damaged apartments and houses counted in the flood zone in northern Armenia

ArmInfo. To  mitigate the  effects of the severe flood, municipal, regional and republican  commissions have implemented various measures, including conducting  an inventory and assessment of the damage to individuals and legal  entities.

This information was provided in the clarifications from  the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure in  response to an article published in the press today, which the  department deemed as one-sided and misleading.  It should be noted  that today the newspaper "Zhogovorud" reported that the country's  authorities have been assessing the damage from the disaster for  three months, but there are still no results. The newspaper's  editorial staff believes that the compensation received by  individuals in the range of 40 to 60 thousand drams does not  accurately reflect the true extent of the work carried out by the RA  government,

Meanwhile, as emphasized by the RA Ministry of  Territorial Administration, after conducting a comprehensive study  and assessment of all cases and damage eligible for compensation, the  government has determined the amount of compensation for repairing of  an apartment in multi-unit building or an individual residential  building. Payments will range from 40 to 60 thousand drams per square  meter of the flooded area. For the damage to the main structure of  the home, compensation will range from 800 thousand to 1.2 million  drams.

In addition, in the event  of a residential building being  lost,  individuals are provided compensation for the purchase of an  apartment or residential building based on a housing purchase  certificate. A total of 269 apartments that were damaged, flooded or  collapsed  in apartment buildings, individual residential buildings  or cottages have been identified. The government has allocated 1  billion drams for  compensation purpose. Local government offices  have received 123 compensation applications, which  have been  processed. In addition to the compensation process, there are plans  to provide one-time financial support to the families of the deceased  (1 million drams) and family members affected by the natural  disaster. The support will be calculated for each family member,  ranging from 40 to 60 thousand drams. There are 250 families, who are  potential beneficiaries, including 850 individuals and 4 families of  victims.

The Unified Social Service has already approved 80% of  applications and will continue to accept them until August 31.  Compensation and support will be provided within the next week to  those  who have experienced damage related to the loss of livestock  and damage to non-residential buildings. Legal entities affected by  natural disaster, will also  receive compensation.

The procedure for  paying compensation  will be approved in the near future. Currently,  work is underway to restore bridges damaged by the flood, metal  bridges will be installed in the Akhtala and Sanahin sections.  Activities are also underway to restore the Khashtarak Bridge. At the  same time, the issue of installing temporary modular transport and  pedestrian bridges in Karkop, Ayrum and a number of other settlements  is being discussed with various international partners. Relevant  projects will be ordered for the construction of the main bridges. A  group of UN experts is  assessing  the consequences and damage caused  by the disaster  as part of ongoing needs assessment.
