ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities want to build a new bridge in Akhtala to replace the previous one, which was destroyed as a result of a powerful flood on May 25-26 of this year.
At a meeting on September 5, the government of the republic approved a draft resolution on the withdrawal of two metal structures from the balance sheet of South Caucasus Railway CJSC.
As noted in the justification for the draft resolution, these structures were assigned to SCR under a concession agreement. Both structures are located in the area of the Kaltakhchi railway station in the Lori region and are not used by the company. Meanwhile, they are necessary for the construction of a new bridge to replace the Akhtala bridge, which was destroyed as a result of a flood in the Lori region.
The project, as emphasized in the justification, does not provide for changes in the current policy implemented in the field of railway transport. Let us recall that on May 26, a flood occurred in the north of Armenia, caused by heavy rainfall, torrential rain and the overflow of the Debed and Aghstev rivers, which led to significant destruction of infrastructure and the death of four people.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, the disaster damaged roads, bridges and railways. In order to eliminate the consequences of the disaster, an operational group was formed under the leadership of the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan.
