The ACE (American Competitiveness Exchange) delegation got acquainted with the potential and features of winemaking and viticulture in Armenia in order to identify possible niches for cooperation. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, referring to the guests' visit to Vayots Dzor region, where a specialized panel discussion was held, headed by the Chairman of the Armenian Wine and Viticulture Foundation (VWFA) Zaruhi Muradyan.
The participants were presented with the rich Armenian winemaking heritage and wine culture, current achievements and prospects as a country experiencing a renaissance in the field. The discussion covered both unique Armenian varieties and organic and biodynamic viticulture and wine production.
As part of the visit to Vayots Dzor, the delegation also visited the Areni-1 cave, the Noravank monastery complex and several wineries.
The American Competitiveness Exchange program is one of the most important American events in the field of economic development, innovation and entrepreneurship, in which all member and observer countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) participate. The ACE program brings together about 50 high-ranking officials, politicians, representatives of business, civil society and scientific and educational circles from member and observer countries.
The goal of the launch of the program in Armenia is to promote dialogue and cooperation between the participating countries and Armenia, paying special attention to such sectors as sustainable agriculture, information and communication technologies, renewable energy, STEM education and winemaking.
According to the Statistical Committee, in January-July of this year, wine production in Armenia decreased by 39.3%, amounting to 5.1 million liters.
