ArmInfo. In the third quarter of 2024, the number of applications for cargo delivery to Armenia from other countries posted on the ATI.SU Freight Exchange increased by 20% compared to the same period last year and by 7% compared to the previous quarter. This was reported by the international ATI.SU Freight Exchange.
The trend is determined by cargo transportation from Russia - in this direction, the number of applications has increased by 23% year-on-year, and by 6% compared to the second quarter. The demand for transportation from Belarus and Kazakhstan has also increased.
At the same time, during the reporting period, the number of applications for cargo delivery from Armenia to other countries increased by 11%, and by 62% compared to the second quarter. Russia is the leader in terms of the absolute number of applications: the demand for export transportation to the Russian Federation increased by 8% year-on-year and by 59% compared to the second quarter. Interest in transportation to Georgia, Belarus and Kazakhstan is also growing.
The revival of the market has naturally led to an increase in rates for road freight transportation in export directions. On average, the price of cargo delivery has increased by 18% over the year.
, - noted Sergey Mkrtchyan, Director of the Representative Office of the ATI.SU Freight Exchange in Armenia.
At the same time, he pointed out another growth factor - seasonal. According to Mkrtchyan, in the summer- autumn period, weather conditions do not interfere with the movement of freight transport along the Georgian Military Road. Namely, it is along this route that most of the cargo between Armenia and its largest foreign trade partner - Russia - passes. By the end of 2025, it is planned to complete the construction of a new section of the strategic Yerevan-Tbilisi-Vladikavkaz highway, and then, as the head of the Exchange noted, the seasonal factor will not be so significant for the road freight market.
According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in January-August 2024 decreased by 13.1% (against a 3% increase a year earlier), amounting to 10,500.1 thousand tons. 1,240.2 thousand tons of natural gas were delivered via the main pipeline, which is 6.5% lower than the figure for the same period last year.
