Water-supply price to remain unchanged in Armenia next year

Water-supply price to remain unchanged in Armenia next year

ArmInfo.  On November 27, the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia set tariffs for drinking water supply, sanitation and wastewater treatment  services for 2025 at its meeting.

According to the decision, the price of Veolia Jur CJSC's drinking  water supply and sanitation (wastewater treatment) services in 2025  for socially vulnerable groups of the population will remain  unchanged - 180 drams, and for other subscribers it will be 200.42  drams.

It is noted that as a result of the monitoring conducted by the  commission, an additional volume of 438,387 cubic meters was  calculated, which had a positive effect on the tariff - by about 0.4  drams per cubic meter.

The change in retail water supply volumes also had a positive effect.  The department recalled that over the past two years, the RA  government, through a corresponding subsidy, has neutralized the  increase in tariffs in the amount of approximately 6 drams for  subscribers of retail services for drinking water supply and water  disposal (wastewater treatment).

From January 1, 2017, the new single water operator - the French  company "Veolia Djur" - a subsidiary of the French Veolia Enviroment  SA took over the management of the property of five existing  operators for a period of 15 years: "Yerevan - Djur", "Armvodokanal",  "Shirak Vodokanal", "Lori Vodokanal" and "Nor Akunk". At the same  time, from January 1, 2017, a single tariff for water was established  in the republic, and for residents of Yerevan it was increased from  170.256 drams per 1 cubic meter of water to 180 drams, including VAT.

The participants in the process hastened to assure the citizens of  the Republic of Armenia that this increase is in their interests,  since the funds will be used to improve the system and expand the  service network.  After the announcement of the tender results, the  company presented the base tariffs for 15 years, which are adjusted  based on 3 factors - depending on the electricity tariff, the  inflation rate, and the volume of retail supplies in the water supply  sector. From January 1, 2023, the water tariff for socially  vulnerable categories of consumers remained at 180 drams per 1 cubic  meter, and for everyone else, the tariff increased by about 8 drams  per 1 cubic meter - from 200.47 drams to 208.419 drams per cubic  meter (including VAT). The Armenian authorities compensated for the  increase in water tariffs in 2023 and 2024 at the expense of the  state treasury.
