ArmInfo.. In 2024, the number of citizens and guests of Armenia using the passenger services of South Caucasus Railway CJSC continued to grow. This was stated in a statement by the company's press service.
Compared to 2023, the source emphasizes, an increase in passenger traffic of 4.6% was recorded, which amounted to about 563 thousand passengers. The company has noted an increase in the number of passengers since 2021.
In the reporting year, about 521 thousand people used the services of commuter trains. The largest increase in commuter traffic was achieved due to the Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan and Yerevan-Yeraskh-Yerevan routes. Also in 2025, by order of third-party organizations, SCR carried out six tourist (charter) flights, on which it transported about 1.5 thousand passengers.
About 42.5 thousand passengers were transported in international traffic on the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan and Yerevan-Batumi-Yerevan routes. The decrease in passengers in international traffic by 14.5 thousand passengers is due to several reasons.
Mainly, due to almost a month-long downtime in May-June as a result of the destruction of the railway infrastructure by flooding in the north of Armenia and the reduction in tourist flow between Yerevan and Tbilisi.
"We are pleased to note the stable growth of passenger traffic, which is an indicator of increased public confidence in railway transport," notes the head of the Passenger Transportation Directorate Grant Mikaelyan. - This is facilitated by the improvement of the services we provide. Last year, we finalized the program for purchasing electronic tickets for suburban electric trains, significantly expanding the functionality of the system. This year, we plan to update the program for purchasing tickets online for international trains together with our Georgian colleagues."
