ArmInfo. On the eve of FOODEX JAPAN-2025, the Japan Business Association (ROTOBO) in cooperation with the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia (VWFA) organized an online seminar dedicated to Armenian wines in order to present the features of our winemaking on the Japanese market.
The speakers of the seminar were the Ambassador of Armenia to Japan Areg Hovhannisyan, the Executive Director of the Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation Zaruhi Muradyan and the Deputy Director of ROTOBO Mickey Wajiman.
As stated in the press release of the Foundation, the seminar was attended by Japanese winemakers, sommeliers, journalists and other industry representatives. The head of the VWFA Zaruhi Muradyan presented the thousand-year history of Armenian wine, which is experiencing a renaissance, to the participants. In her speech, she drew attention to the fact that Japan is an interesting market for the consumption of Armenian wines.
Ambassador Hovhannisyan, in turn, noted that despite its rich heritage, Armenian wine remains a hidden treasure on the world stage. He emphasized that promoting Armenian wines in Japan is not only an economic initiative, but also a cultural exchange, which deepens the ties between the two ancient civilizations.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, 9.1 million liters of wine were produced in Armenia in January-November 2024, which is 27.1% lower than the same period last year.
According to the Customs Service of Armenia, in the first half of 2024, Armenia exported only 6 liters of wine to Japan, compared to 1.6 thousand liters of wine in the same period of 2023.
