ArmInfo. In 2024, the volume of cargo transportation in Armenia decreased by 7.7% (against a 2.2% decline in 2023), totaling 16,831.5 thousand tons. This decline was across all types of cargo transportation, except for air transportation, which maintained growth in 2024 with a slight slowdown in rates from 45.5% to 24.5%, amounting to 42.2 thousand tons.
This is evidenced by data from the RA Statistical Committee. Road freight transport, which remained dominant, accounting for 79.5% or 13,389.6 thousand tons, decreased by 5.3% (compared to an 8.7% growth in 2023). Rail freight transport also declined in 2024, with a slower rate of decrease from 40.1% to 31.4%, totaling 1,442.5 thousand tons.
In 2024, 1,957.2 thousand tons of natural gas were delivered through the main pipeline in 2024, with an annual decline of 0.2% (compared to the 8.1% decline in 2023). Passenger transportation for the reporting year experienced a slowdown in growth from 20.6% to 17.3%, totaling 225,094 thousand people. In particular, a slowdown in annual growth was observed in passenger transportation by road - from 21.2% to 19.5%, by rail - from 7.5 to 4.7%, and by electric transport - from 14.6% to 10.1%. But the annual dynamics of passenger transportation by air transport significantly worsened, shifting from a 46.4% growth to a 0.4% decline. As a result, 183,710.9 thousand people were transported by road in 2024, 563.6 thousand people by rail, 5,393.1 thousand people by air, and 35,426.4 thousand people by electric transport. Cargo turnover decreased by 1.3% in 2024 (compared to a 10% decline in 2023), amounting to 4,748.2 million ton-km, and passenger traffic by 23.4% (versus a 63.2% increase in 2023), amounting to 4,068.7 million passenger-km.
