ArmInfo.Despite the fact that the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border is open for traffic, 324 heavy-duty trucks from Armenia have accumulated at the checkpoint. This was reported by the North Ossetia Traffic Organization Center.
As the source notes, a total of 913 heavy-duty trucks from different countries have registered in line to pass through the checkpoint. The queue at the checkpoint was formed as a result of worsening weather conditions.
The Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road is the only land route connecting Armenia with the Russian Federation in transit through the territory of Georgia.
We also note that according to the results of 2024, the Upper Lars automobile checkpoint took first place in terms of cargo transportation volumes in Russia for 2024. 4.8 million tons of cargo passed through it, which significantly exceeds the figures for other checkpoints. In second place is the checkpoint "Yarag- Kazmalyar" with a volume of transportation of 3.7 million tons. Zabaikalsk, through which 2.5 million tons of cargo passed, closes the top three.
