Armenia cannot `occupy two chairs` - Alexei Overchuk

ArmInfo. Moscow will have to reconsider the entire range of economic relations with Yerevan if Armenia joins the European Union (EU). This was stated to journalists  by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.

Earlier, the Armenian parliament adopted in the second and final  reading a bill on the beginning of the process of the republic's  accession to the EU.

"For our part, of course, we are closely monitoring these processes.  We understand that if Armenia joins Europe, then, accordingly, it  will be necessary to reconsider the entire range of economic  relations with this country. And, unfortunately, this will be  reflected in the standard of living of people in Armenia, which, of  course, we would not like," he said, TASS reports.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted that he had familiarized  himself with the text of the bill adopted in the republic. "He is  like "for everything good, against everything bad" or completely  general words. This is an internal matter for Armenia. In fact, we  understand that both the EAEU and the EU have similar agendas. And  therefore, of course, the country will need to decide and make this  choice. Because it will not be possible to sit on two chairs at the  same time, this is absolutely certain," Overchuk emphasized. It  should be noted that on January 9, the Armenian government approved  the draft law on the beginning of the process of joining the European  Union, proposed by the civil initiative "Eurakve". The draft was sent  to the Armenian parliament for approval. On March 26, the country's  parliament adopted it in the final reading and sent it to the  president for signature. Moscow stated that Russia conveyed to  Armenia that simultaneous membership in the Eurasian Economic Union  and the European Union is impossible.
