ArmInfo. The management of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant does not have the authority to decide on the particular model of the new nuclear power unit; this decision falls under the jurisdiction of the government, as stated by the CEO of the plant Eduard Martirosyan during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Sergey Kopyrkin on May 14.
He recalled that in 2024, the government made a decision to establish "Construction of a New Nuclear Power Unit" CJSC, which is responsible for selecting the model and presenting the final version for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers. The company is also tasked with researching the technologies of the new unit proposed to Armenia. Martirosyan noted that according to the current timeline, the CJSC is expected to submit its recommendations in 2026. The CEO highlighted that stationary units are more costly than modular ones, and their construction time also varies; the former can take up to 10 years, while the latter only 6.
