ArmInfo. The Azimut production company of the Rostec State Corporation has delivered a VOR/DME 2700 radio beacon to Armenia. The equipment was installed near the city of Sisian, the press service of the State Corporation reported.
According to the source, the radio beacon will help aircraft navigate in mountainous terrain and in difficult weather conditions. The VOR/DME 2700 ground-based omnidirectional azimuth- rangefinder radio beacon is designed to determine the location of an aircraft relative to the installation point. It operates in the VHF range and can simultaneously guide up to 200 aircraft. The equipment is recommended by ICAO as the main means of navigation on air routes, as well as an additional means when aircraft are approaching for landing.
"The Azimut radio beacon has proven itself as reliable and durable equipment. It is currently successfully used in Stavropol, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk and other cities of Russia, as well as in foreign airports. Now we have completed testing of the VOR/DME 2700 in Armenia, which will allow aircraft to navigate on air routes in mountainous terrain and in bad weather," said Aleksey Galchenkov, Deputy General Director of Azimut.
