ArmInfo. The French Development Agency (AFD) is interested in implementing programs in Armenia in the field of renewable energy sources and improving transport infrastructure. This was stated by AFD Regional Director Matthieu Vasseur during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Kristine Ghalechyan.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry, the parties discussed the infrastructure programs being implemented and planned in Armenia, as well as the possibilities for expanding cooperation. They confirmed their mutual interest in deepening cooperation and agreed to continue an active dialogue in order to study the possibilities for implementing joint programs.
During the meeting held the day before with the Minister of Finance of Armenia Vahe Hovhannisyan, the possibilities of financing the construction of the Bargushat tunnel by the French side were discussed. Let us recall that at the end of April this year, during a meeting of the Commission on Financial, Credit and Budgetary Issues, Kristine Galechyan reported that the issue of financing the construction of the Sisian- Kajaran road of the North-South transport corridor was completely closed, with the exception of the Bargushat tunnel (length 8.6 km). Negotiations are underway on this issue. Let us add that the Vedi reservoir was put into operation in early May, 80% of the construction of which is financed by the French Development Agency. Effective cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the FAD began back in 2012.
