ArmInfo. Rosselkhoznadzor is concerned about the increasing violations in the supply of plant products from Armenia to Russia. This is stated in the agency's statement.
According to the statement, cut flowers and buds belong to the category of quarantine products with a high phytosanitary risk. Penetration, spread and acclimatization of quarantine pests can pose a serious threat to the phytosanitary well-being of the territory of Russia, including the developing domestic floriculture. In 2025, there has been a sharp increase in the import of cut flowers from Armenia to Russia. Thus, since the beginning of this year, 52 million pieces have been inspected, which is 49.7% more than in the same period in 2024, when 34.7 million pieces were imported.
Against the background of an increase in cargo flow, an increase in the number of detections of quarantine objects for member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union has been recorded. According to the results of quarantine phytosanitary control carried out by the territorial departments of Rosselkhoznadzor, 13 cases of flower infestation with western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande) were identified.
In addition, there were repeated cases of detection of quarantine objects in other types of plant products, which indicates an ineffective system of control over exported products by Armenia.
In order to prevent the deterioration of the quarantine phytosanitary situation in Russia, a letter was sent to the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia with a request to take comprehensive measures and strengthen control over the supplied goods.
In the absence of the necessary response measures and the continued detection of quarantine objects, Rosselkhoznadzor will be forced to introduce temporary restrictions on the import of flower products to Russia from June 16, 2025, accompanied by Armenian phytosanitary certificates from third countries.
