Solid waste management program should be implemented throughout  Armenia - Vardan Kostanyan

ArmInfo.  The model of the solid waste management program in Kotayk and Gegharkunik should be implemented in Yerevan and in all regions of the country. This was  stated by Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and  Infrastructure of Armenia Vardan Kostanyan during a meeting with  Deputy Head of the Regional Office of the European Bank for  Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Tea Melikadze, Head of the  Yerevan Office of the EBRD Georgi Akhalkatsi and EBRD Program  Coordinator Rudik Tadevosyan.

Recalling that the program was launched in Gegharkunik and Kotayk on  July 8 with a budget of 14.8 million euros, the Deputy Minister noted  that the Armenian side counts on the EBRD's support in conducting  research and forming a common vision.

In turn, Giorgi Akhalkatsi congratulated on the completion of the  construction of a new sanitary landfill in the Hrazdan community and  waste transfer stations in the villages of Martuni and Akunk  (Gegharkunik region), emphasizing the importance of close partnership  with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

According to the press service of the Ministry, the parties discussed  the possibilities of implementing new programs planned within the  framework of cooperation.

Recall that it was previously reported that the landfill will be  equipped with modern solid waste management technologies and will  include the collection and disposal of this waste. It is located next  to the Yerevan-Sevan highway and will be able to serve twelve  settlements: 7 from the Kotayk region (Hrazdan, Abovyan, Nor Hachn,  Byureghavan, Charentsavan, Yeghvard, Tsaghkadzor) and 5 from the  Gegharkunik region (Sevan, Vardenis, Gavar, Martuni, Chambarak).  Construction of the landfill was supposed to begin in 2020 and be  completed in 2022, but the deadline was changed due to the  coronavirus pandemic.
