ArmInfo. On August 14, the Government of Armenia made amendments to the state budget for 2025 to complete the program <Construction of the 400 kV Iran- Armenia Overhead Power Line and Corresponding Substation> in the shortest possible time and to mitigate further increases in electricity tariffs for the end consumer.
The draft resolution notes that several construction works are currently underway: in Noravan - concreting of cable trenches, cladding of buildings, and installation of a drainage system. Additionally, the production and testing of new transformers are ongoing, with the first one being tested at the end of June 2025, and the second - in mid-July. Both are scheduled to be installed around October 2025. With the amendments to the budget, the necessary amount will be allocated from another energy system development program. In 2025, as part of the event <Double Extension of Design life of 2nd Power Unit of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant>, 10,029,980.0 thousand drams were planned for nine months of 2025, and 13,529,980.0 thousand drams for the entire year. However, due to the extension of tender processes for the implementation of the event, it became possible to allocate 828 million drams to the <High-Voltage Electric Networks> company from the planned funds for nine months of 2025, and 1 billion 035 million drams for the entire year. To use funds in the amount of 1 billion 035 million drams within the event, the latter were reallocated for the period 2026-2028.
It is noted that with the adoption of the decision, it will be possible to complete the construction as soon as possible, mitigating further increases in electricity tariffs for the end consumer. The mutual flows of electricity between Armenia and Iran will increase from 350 MW to 1200 MW, the level of security, reliability and stability of Armenia's energy system will increase. It will be possible to fully utilize the capacity of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline within the framework of the Gas for Electricity program.
