ArmInfo. Armenia has significantly increased its exports to countries within the Eurasian Economic Union, as stated by RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan in an interview with journalists on August 21.
One example cited by the Minister was the export of flower products to the Russian market, which saw a volume increase of 87%. Papoyan acknowledged that there may be issues with certain suppliers. The current year has seen a 58% increase in apricot export, though there appear to be challenges with that particular product. "In reality, there is no problem. 2,500 trucks with apricots were sent to the Russian market, and only 15 vehicles were denied entry. We must speak openly about the fact that the denial of entry for these vehicles is due to false documents," the Minister said, emphasizing that Armenia does not have any political issues with the EAEU. This year, the country has exported larger volumes of products to the markets of the Union states compared to last year. And this is happening amidst the elimination of artificial trade turnover. Last year, gold and diamonds were sent from Russia to Armenia, and then re- exported to the UAE. Now this artificiality has been eliminated, yet trade turnover numbers are still increasing, reflecting the growth of the country's economy, as noted by the Minister.
Papoyan emphasized that there are issues that can be resolved through diversification. He recalled his meeting with the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran, where they discussed the issue of granting Armenia a quota for the supply of liquefied gas to the country. Iran could become an important direction for diversifying the import sources of this fuel, ultimately enhancing competitiveness in the market and reducing prices.
