Russian launches electronic queue for border crossing at Upper Lars  checkpoint

ArmInfoStarting October 1, 2025, an electronic system for booking border crossing dates and times (GIS EPD) will be introduced at automobile border crossing points across the Russian Federation state border, including the  Upper Lars border crossing point.

According to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and  Infrastructure of Armenia, the electronic platform allows freight  carriers to pre-book their arrival date and time at the Upper Lars  border crossing point to cross the Russian Federation border.

To register, you must: register on the electronic platform, confirm  your email address and phone number, receive confirmation after data  verification, create a vehicle card, attach a copy of the  registration document, and receive confirmation after data  verification. Registration is available at: esia.epd-portal.ru.

The Russian government previously announced that, in accordance with  a Russian government decree, a time reservation system (electronic  queue) will be deployed at the Verkhniy Lars automobile checkpoint  (on the Russian-Georgian border) starting October 1, 2025. This will  streamline traffic flows and speed up border crossing times.

As a reminder, the Georgian Military Highway is currently the only  land road connecting Georgia and Armenia with Russia. The  reconstruction of the customs checkpoint lanes was completed by June  15 of this year. As a result, 15 new lanes were commissioned,  bringing the total number of lanes at the checkpoint to 39: 12 for  trucks (6 entries and 6 exits), 24 for passenger cars (12 entries and  12 exits), 2 for passenger buses, and 1 for oversized cargo.  According to the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, after the  opening of the new lines, the throughput capacity of the checkpoint  increased by 30%, with an average of approximately 1,300 trucks being  processed daily, which led to the elimination of queues on both sides  of the checkpoint.
