Pashinyan: There is no such thing as "Armenian cognac" or "Dilijan  Jermuk"

Pashinyan: There is no such thing as "Armenian cognac" or "Dilijan  Jermuk"

ArmInfo.  Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has once again stated that the Republic of Armenia cannot produce cognac. He  emphasized that cognac can only be  produced in the French region of the same name, similar to how only  wine made from grapes grown and harvested in the Champagne region of  France can be called champagne. This statement was made during a  regular cabinet meeting on October 23.

In light of this, the Prime Minister noted that he is surprised by  Armenian exporters complaining  that the EU does not permit them to  import Armenian cognac. "There can be no such thing as "Armenian  cognac," just as there can be no such thing as "Dilijan Jermuk,"  Pashinyan stated.

Regarding the grape harvesting process, Economy Minister Gevorg  Papoyan stated that the harvest of industrial grape varieties is most  complete. According to the Ministry of Economy's latest data, 211,000  tons of grapes have been harvested, compared to 164,200 tons last  year. A small volume of Areni and table grapes still need to be  harvested, which  Papoyan expects to be finished within the next two  to three days.

The head of government also noted that, as of October 23, Armenian  agricultural exports had increased by 13.8% over the year.  Particularly, the export of apricots increased by 25.5%, plums - by  61.1%, peaches - by 87.1%, cherries - by 123%, pears - by 245%,  tomatoes - by 12%, peppers - by 62%, cabbage - by 843% 72%, and  eggplants - by 72%. The export of flowers (piece by piece) increased  by 6.4%.
