ArmInfo. With the complete unblocking of communications, at least two land roads will open between Armenia and Russia, as stated by Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan during the debates on the draft state budget in the National Assembly on October 28.
He clarified that this development will result in a direct railway connection between Kasakh and Ijevan, increasing the countr5y's transport attractiveness. "If you noticed, the Russian Federation also stated that this route is open and of interest to them," the Minister of Economy added. Touching on Kazakhstan- Azerbaijan-Armenia transit, he emphasized that it would, in fact, solve several issues. First and foremost, Papoyan touched on negotiations to purchase wheat from Kazakhstan. "This was expensive for us-around $280 and up-due to high transportation costs. But if new routes emerge, these costs will be significantly reduced," he emphasized.
Specifically, he considered two potential routes: Aktau-Enzeli (Kazakhstan-Iran) and Aktau-Baku (Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan). With the first route, goods from Kazakhstan are transported to the Iranian port of Enzeli, then travel overland through Iran to Meghri, and from there to Yerevan. In this regard, the Minister pointed out that this part of Iran, just like Armenia's Syunik region, is difficult to navigate due to its high altitude. "However, opting for the Azerbaijani railway offers a shorter route," Papoyan said.
