ArmInfo. Wheat of Russian origin is currently being transported from Russia to Armenia via Azerbaijan. This news was shared on his Facebook page by RA Minister of Economy Gevork Papoyan.
"Dear compatriots, I have more good news. Wheat of Russian origin is currently being transported from Russia to Armenia via Azerbaijan. I would also like to note that wheat of Kazakh origin is also en route and will reach Armenia in the coming days, again via Azerbaijan," the head of the RA Ministry of Economy wrote.
In this regard, it's worth noting that these two "good" pieces of news might give the impression that the republic was completely cut off from the outside world and living in famine. This raises the question: was wheat not entering the country until today, or was there perhaps a shortage of bread in stores? The minister said absolutely nothing about how supplies through Azerbaijan would affect bakery prices in the republic, or whether they would affect them at all.
As a reminder, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev previously announced the complete lifting of restrictions on goods shipped to Armenia via Azerbaijan. He cited the start of wheat shipments from Kazakhstan as an example.
