ArmInfo. The Yerevan Municipality has proposed a new solution to the city's traffic congestion: a Traffic Management Center will be established. Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan presented the draft law during a meeting of the Council of Elders on November 18.
He noted that traffic management in Yerevan poses a serious challenge for city authorities. To address this issue, the Municipality is suggesting the use of digital tools. The newly established center will be tasked with implementing various events and projects related to traffic management in Yerevan.
According to the Deputy Mayor, two major projects are planned for 2026: the first project involves implementing a public transportation dispatching system. Grigoryan clarified that the reforms already initiated by the Mayor's Office public transportation must be complemented by the proper organization of public transportation schedules and traffic flow management.
The second project calls for accurate traffic flow calculations, which can be achieved through digital tools and technological solutions. "I would like to point out that the need for such a structure has been long- standing," Grigoryan emphasized.
Regarding the establishment of such a Center, he mentioned that the dissolution of the Yerevan Trans organization will be discussed at the next meeting of the Council of Elders due to the overlap of several functions that will be assigned to the Center.
In response to questions from Council members, the Deputy Mayor stated that the creation of the new organization will not have a significant impact on the budget. He emphasized that the difference in funding between Yerevan Trans and the Traffic Management Center amounts to only 0.16% of Yerevan's total revenues.
