ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure (MTAI) of Armenia Narek Apitonyan met with Andrew Platt, a professional staff member of the US Senate Appropriations Committee. Representatives of the US Embassy in the Republic of Armenia also participated in the meeting.
MTAI reported that the course and prospects of energy cooperation with the US were discussed. The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of launching new support programs following the suspension of USAID energy sector programs, taking into account the opportunities provided by the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Security Partnership between the Governments of the United States and the Republic of Armenia.
Recall, the Armenian government signed three memoranda of intent with the American side on August 8 in Washington, one of which involves cooperation in the energy sector. The document envisages four areas of cooperation: civilian nuclear energy, including small modular reactor (SMR) technologies; promoting investment to strengthen critical energy infrastructure, including the development of battery production plants for renewable energy sources; promoting investment in the modernization of Armenia's electricity transmission and distribution networks, and enhancing the cybersecurity of energy infrastructure, including through technical assistance.
