ArmInfo. The Strong Armenia Party is proposing a program to establish specialized procurement stations designed to provide a "full cycle" of support for domestic farmers, as stated by Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the party, on May 12 during the election campaign in Zorakan village, Tavush region.
Karapetyan described the current state of Armenian agriculture as "critical," stating that farmers are often forced to handle their harvests independently due to a severe lack of processing and storage infrastructure. He noted that even in years of high yield, producers face difficulties in finding buyers as many traditional canning and brandy factories have closed down. "In the absence of state-led distribution infrastructure, the establishment of procurement stations has become a vital necessity," he stated. "These stations must become the backbone for our rural communities."
According to Karapetyan, they will not only handle the purchase of harvests but also provide farmers with seeds and fertilizers, receiving in exchange products that can be sold, with a portion of the proceeds used to pay for the farmers' labor. Under such a system, farmers will clearly understand the terms of sale of their produce.
Recall, parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on June 7, with 19 political forces – 17 parties and two blocs – participating.
