New tender for construction of  Kaps Reservoir to be announced in  2026 - David Khudatyan

ArmInfo. A new tender for the construction of the Kaps Reservoir will be announced later this year, as stated by Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan to journalists.

"We expect that construction work will resume as soon as possible,"  he emphasized, expressing hope  that the initial results of the new  contractor's efforts will be visible by the first half of 2028.  Khudatyan recalled that construction work on the Kaps Reservoir was  halted due to significant schedule delays by the Chinese company  Shanxi Construction Investment Group.

As ArmInfo previously reported, the project is  funded through a KfW  loan and co-financing from the Government of the Republic of Armenia.  Its total budget is 95.2 million euros, including 68.5 million in  borrowed funds. The first stage involves building a reservoir with a  total capacity of 25 million cubic meters, with a subsequent increase  in its maximum capacity to 60 million cubic meters. This first stage  will increase the water supply to the Shirak Main and Akhuryan Right  Bank Canal, benefitting approximately 17,000 hectares of  managed  agricultural land. Additionally, the project will enable a transition  from mechanical pumping to gravity-fed irrigation for 2,280 hectares  of land, yielding annual electricity savings of 1.3 million kWh.
