ArmInfo. Starting May 30, 2026, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) is introducing temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green crops, and strawberries originating from and shipped from Armenia. These restrictions will remain in place until a corresponding mechanism is developed to ensure the safety of the shipped products, according to a statement by the Russian inspection agency.
It is noted that the decision was made due to the increasing number of violations in the supply of Armenian fruit and vegetable products to Russia and is aimed to ensure phytosanitary safety. "The current situation poses a threat to the phytosanitary status of the country's territory. Furthermore, the competent Armenian agency has failed to take appropriate measures regarding previously identified violations. As part of previously reached agreements, Rosselkhoznadzor conducted an inspection of Armenian enterprises from May 21 to May 27, 2026, which revealed a number of violations, namely the presence of quarantine facilities for EAEU member states in greenhouse complexes. This is confirmed by systematic detections of these facilities during the import of Armenian fruit and vegetable products—181 cases in 2026," Rosselkhoznadzor stated.
"Also, according to data from the Rosselkhoznadzor information system, a large quantity of fruit and vegetable products is being supplied by numerous Armenian participants in foreign economic activity with unknown ownership, who evade quarantine phytosanitary control. This indicates that our Armenian colleagues lack a product traceability system for exports to Russia," the agency added.
It should be noted that the Russian side previously restricted the supply of Armenian flowers, mineral water, and alcoholic beverages from certain manufacturers to the country.
