RF Energy Minister-Russia yet to receive response from Armenia regarding letter on consequences of joining the EU

ArmInfo.Russia has not yet received a response from Armenia to its letter regarding the consequences of the South Caucasian republic's accession to the European Union, as stated by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev to reporters, according to Interfax.

"In my opinion, the letter clearly outlines the stance. We all operate within the framework of Eurasian economic cooperation. We have spent many years building these relations with all states. It is no secret to anyone that both oil and gas are supplied to them (Armenia) at quite favorable prices. Naturally, the price for the exact same gas in Europe is several times higher," he said, adding that for this reason, the Russian side decided to notify Yerevan in advance of the potential consequences of altering its foreign economic course.

"We have always viewed the Armenian people as a brotherly nation. And they must know in advance about all the consequences that may occur," Tsivilev emphasized.

Recall, on May 27, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reported that Moscow had sent Yerevan a letter warning of its readiness to terminate  agreements on the supply of gas, oil products, and diamond supplies should Armenia join the EU.
