ArmInfo. Armenia and Iran will exchange preliminary information on goods and vehicles transported through the two countries. At its September 3 meeting, the Armenian government approved the signing of a corresponding protocol between the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia and the Iranian Customs Administration.
The rationale for the government's decision states that the protocol will be aimed at law-abiding economic operators, who will benefit from a simplified customs control and clearance procedure. To facilitate the transportation of goods, the Iranian side has proposed creating a simplified customs corridor on the Armenian-Iranian border and a corresponding project for its implementation. Specifically, it is envisaged that, in order to implement the simplified customs corridor, the parties will electronically exchange information on goods, vehicles, and participants in foreign economic activity, including freight forwarders and their employees, before importing goods and vehicles into the territory of the other party, in accordance with the terms established by the protocol. The simplified customs corridor is intended to be applied to entities whose activities are characterized by a low risk of violating customs legislation. The simplifications will apply to all types of vehicles, with the exception of personal vehicles, and to all types of cargo, for Armenian and Iranian entities that use the simplified customs corridor voluntarily.
