On September 29, the annual meeting of the regional technical assistance program for financial education of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Ministry of Finance of the Netherlands on the topic of "Strengthening financial stability" began at the Central Bank of Armenia. As noted in the Central Bank of Armenia's statement, the meeting will continue for two more days and will include further discussions and exchange of experiences on financial education and financial sustainability.
Presentation was given by Martyn Galstyan, Governor of the Central Bank of Armenia; Miles Larbey, Head of the OECD Financial Consumer Protection, Education, and Inclusion Unit; Anna Babajanyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia; and Angelique van Haasteren, Coordinator of the Ministry of Finance of the Netherlands.
Martyn Galstyan emphasized that a modern approach to financial education must go beyond simply imparting knowledge and focus on real financial behavior and well-being. He noted that the third phase of the financial education program being developed in Armenia places special emphasis on piloting, behavioral approaches, and evaluating results.
Miles Larbi noted that the meeting, which brings together representatives from Armenia and ten other countries in the region, reflects a shared commitment to developing financial education policies and strengthening regional cooperation.
According to Angelique van Haasteren, financial resilience means the ability to effectively manage everyday finances, withstand economic shocks, continue to move toward long-term goals, and maintain confidence and control over one's own finances.
Anna Babajanyan emphasized the importance of cooperation between government agencies, the Central Bank, the education system, the private sector, and other partners, also presenting the experience of integrating financial education into school education in Armenia.
The day before, on September 28, a reception was held at the National Gallery of Armenia, where Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Armen Nurbekyan and member of the Council addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.
