Armenia expects rise of prices of about 700 items of goods

The head of the Armenian Ministry of Economy Tigran Khachatryan assures that Armenian citizens will not feel the additional financial burden after the  increase in customs duties on goods imported from outside the EAEU,.  "The total impact of a rise in the price of a number of goods on  inflation due to Armenia's membership in the EAEU will not exceed  0.5%," he said during a government hour in parliament on November 13.

More modest growth in exports and imports is forecasted by WB for  Armenia`s foreign trade in 2019

ArmInfo.The World Bank updated the forecast on foreign trade of Armenia for 2019, expecting acceleration of export growth to 5.1% (instead of the previously  expected 8.8%) and a slowdown in the rise of imports to 4.2% (instead  of the previously expected 12.2%), against export growth of 7.8% and  imports of 21.1% recorded in 2018.

According to the new World Bank forecast, the service sector and the industrial sector will act as drivers of GDP growth in Armenia in 2019-2021, and the  agricultural sector will emerge from the recession and accelerate the  ascent. In September 2019, inflation in the consumer market of Armenia was recorded at 0.2%, which was due to a rise in prices for non-food products by 0.4% and  an increase in tariffs for services by 0.2%, while food prices  remained unchanged. In the capital, consumer prices rose by 0.3% in  September. In January-September 2019, deflation in the consumer  market of 2.1% was due to a decrease in the price of food products by  5.5%, with a rise in price of non-food products by 0.6% and an  increase in tariffs for services by 0.9%.

Armenian economy accelerates growth

The dynamics of the indicator could be  positively affected by agriculture, in which in the second half of  2019 production growth is forecasted against the background of a low  comparison base.

EDB: Armenia remains the fastest growing economy of the EEU

ArmInfo. For the second year in a row, Armenia remains the fastest growing economy of the EEU. In 2018, it grew by 5.2% after 7.5% a year earlier. The main reasons for  the slowdown in economic activity were a more moderate growth in  household consumption than in 2017, and a decrease in consumption in  the public sector. This is stated in the Eurasian Development Bank's  Macro-Review published today in Armenia.

Central Bank of Armenia: IMF approved stand-by loans to Armenia worth  about $ 248.2 million

ArmInfo. In the consumer market of Armenia in the Q1 of 2019, inflation was recorded at 2.6% against last year's 2.5%. In the Q1 of this year inflation was mainly  provoked by a 5.8% rise in the price of food products and, to a  lesser extent, a rise in tariffs for services by 0.1%, in parallel  with the decrease in non-food prices by 0.4%. According to the RA  Statistics Committee, the average monthly price increase in the Q1 of  this year amounted to 0.9%, against 0.8% a year earlier.

As the press service of the Central Bank of Armenia told ArmInfo, this  decision was made at a meeting of the Central Bank's Council on March  12. It is worth recalling that the refinancing rate was kept at 6%  from February 2017, and only in 2019, 0.25 percentage points reduced  January 29.
