Unibank intends to ensure twofold growth in plastic cards
ArmInfo. Unibank is going to increase the number of its plastic cards over twice - to 100 thsd by the end of 2010, said Mesrop Hakobyan, Director for Card Business Development, member of Board of Unibank, in his interview with ArmInfo correspondent. He said that today the total number of Visa and ArCa cards of the bank is about 48 thsd.
Alongside with the growth in cards, Unibank is going to considerably expand the network of its bancomats and POS-terminals. For instance, if the bank has 69 bancomats and 483 POS-terminals now, by the end of the year the banks intends to increase their number to 90 and 1000 respectively. As regards the plans for 2011, Hakobyan said that in 2011 the bank intends to take a more active part in the card business, including launching cash-in bancomats and introducing new attractive products.
According to Armenian Card, over January-June 2010 the number of plastic cards issued by the ArCa member banks grew by 10%, having totaled 505 thsd cards by 1 July 2010 and exceeded the index of the same period of 2009 by 29%. The number of Visa cards grew by 14% to 126767 cards (25% of the total number of cards), and local ArCa cards - by 6% to 295556 cards (59%).
