ArmInfo. Almost 300,000 car owners in Armenia have already bought motor third party liability insurance policies.
During a press-conference today CEO of Nairi Insurance IC Gor Khachatryan said that his company has concluded 31,000 contracts. Since Jan 1 2011, when the law on motor third party liability insurance took force, the company has received 96 applications and has paid 1.2mln AMD as compensation.
CEO of RESO IC Samvel Grigoryan says that his company has concluded almost 50,000 contracts, has received 174 applications and has paid 7mln AMD indemnity.
Armenian insurers started selling MTPL policies starting 18 Oct 2010. The Law on MTPL came into force on 1 Jan 2011. According to the tariff plan worked out by the Motor Insurers Bureau and approved the Central Bank of Armenia, the minimum amount of the insurance premium is 18634 AMD, and the maximum one is 110313 AMD. A total of 567 road accidents were registered since the launch of MTPL in Armenia. Experts estimate the MTPL market volumes in Armenia at 13-14 bln AMD ($38 mln).
