Transactions with Anelik Bank's cards have annually grown by 11%
ArmInfo. Interview of Head of Plastic Cards Operations Department of Anelik Bank Astghik Kasabyan with ArmInfo
Anelik Bank was one of the first banks of Armenia to issue plastic cards of three systems: Visa, MasterCard and ArCa. Notwithstanding this, the bank started demonstrating activation in the number of issued cards over the past year. How can this be explained?
The Bank has always demonstrated gradual and implacable growth in the number of the issued cards. As of 1 July 2011 the number of the issued cards is 37,742. I'd like to note that first and foremost the Bank is going to ensure up-to-date and high-quality service of plastic cards, and only after that to increase the quantity and turnover. Today the Bank has quite a large network of ATMs and terminals throughout Armenia: 40 and 424 respectively.
Does the Bank observe reduction in noncash payments with its cards, and what is the total volume of transactions with Anelik Bank's cards over January- June 2011?
One can speak of reduction in growth rates rather than reduction in payments in 2009- 2010. In January-June 2011 the volume of transactions amounted to 5.1 bln AMD. As compared with the same period of 2010, this index rose by 11%.
What can you say about the portfolio of loans provided by plastic cards? On what terms does the bank provide overdrafts and how does it manage the risks in this field?
At present the portfolio of loans provided by plastic cards amounts to 212.6 million AMD, and the number of loans totals 646. These are renewable credits with up to 45 days of grace period. The terms of loan provision depend on the assessment of the borrowers' credit worthiness.
Earlier the Bank was going to launch new co-branding projects. At what stage are they now?
The Bank is going to launch its own discount program: our customers can receive 2-5% discounts at over 100 service points. It also intends to cooperate with one of the largest international discount systems.
Anelik Bank was one of the first banks to participate in the program on pension plastic cards. How do you assess the rates of implementation of this project from the viewpoint of the demand for pension cards?
The number of the pension cards issued by the Bank is not big for the moment, but we forecast a considerable growth by late 2011. I should point out that the Bank provides all the services with these cards free of charge, and 2% interest is added to the balance of the account.
