ArmInfo. Gazprom has issued an ultimatum against Georgia, Energy Minister of Georgia Kakha Kaladze said on Rustavi-2.
He said that Georgia disagrees with Gazprom's demand that Georgia should receive the gas transit value in money instead of raw materials, but the Russian company has openly hinted that otherwise it will supply Armenia with gas via Iran. "Gazprom suggests switching to financial payments - you know that 10% of the transited gas remains in Georgia, we receive it in raw materials. Certainly, it was new for us. When they laid down such a condition, we expressed our disagreement, however, we have directly been told at a meeting that Russia has a real opportunity to supply gas to Armenia via Iran - probably, in the first year it will be hard to supply the entire amount, but in the following years Gazprom will make use of such a technical opportunity. Consequently, our ministry has analyzed how realistic the ultimatum is and has stated that today Gazprom can supply nearly 1 bln cu m of gas to Armenia via Iran, but following some investments they will be able to satisfy the Armenian market's needs completely. There is such a threat and its consequences will be grave for us," Kaladze says.
