ArmInfo. "ABC on Internet" by Rostelecom (Armenia) is very popular among the older generation. Open classes for senior citizens were launched today in the Russian Economic University after Plekhanov, Yerevan branch within the framework of "ABC on Internet in Armenia" project, which is held for the second time and is the first in 2016.
As Head of Public Relations Unit of "Rostelecom" Armenia Siranush Gyurjinyan told ArmInfo's correspondent the group consisted of 12 participants in 2015, the same number will participate in the group in 2016 (aged between 55 and 80), as this quantity is the most ideal for the training program, taking into account the number of computers in the class. At the moment 34 people have already registered so new groups will be formed each consisting of 12 participants.
She added that currently Russian-speaking participants are involved in the program in cooperation with Russian Center for Science and Culture in Yerevan and lessons for Armenian-speaking people will also be organized in the nearest future. The project will be implemented in Yerevan and in several large cities of the country (Gyumri, Vanadzor etc.)
The participants of the project were gifted books and calendars. Head of Educational Services Marketing Department of the Russian Center for Science and Culture Petr Yeremenko said that number of copies of the book issued for the Armenian participants and the local market totaled 500. The book is available at the libraries of Yerevan branch of Russian Economic University after Plekhanov, Russian-Armenian University and Russian Center of Science and Culture.
One of the participants of the project Janna Muradyan told ArmInfo's correspondent: "As a doctor I think that all the pensioners need such kind of programs as they enhance the brain functions, memory and help to be closer to youth. The students-volunteers presented the course easy-to-understand while the detailed instructions in the book also helped a lot. Registration in the websites was the most difficult".
"Skype program was the most difficult to learn during the course. I think that the term of the course should be prolonged from one month to a month and a half or more, so that the senior citizens learn properly how to register in the social networks and work with other programs. Also it would be better to closely study the interests and goals of the participants before the lesson as there were cases when some in the group had already have certain skills while the others had to start from zero", a student-volunteer, Head of Student Council of Yerevan branch of Russian Economic University after Plekhanov Lilit Poghosyan noted.
To recall, "The ABC on Internet" is an educational textbook for the people of older generation. The project was launched and successfully implemented for the pensioners and people of 55+ age, who start to study the work of computer. Detailed information on the computer structure, rules of work with text files, video and audio recordings, photos, information storage is expounded in an accessible form for the older people in the textbook. A large section of textbook is devoted to obtaining skills in the web search engines, features of the communication in social networks, Skype and email, as well as safety precautions while using the Internet.
