ArmInfo. Armenia and Georgia agreed on transport corridor creating as an alternative to Stepantsminda-Lars road, which connect Georgia and Russia. The Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said this during a conversation with journalists in Tbilisi, refusing to reveal the details of the agreements. He only noted that the agreement was reached during the meeting with his Georgian colleague.
"We agreed on both "Upper Lars" PPC and energy corridor. In General, my visit in Georgia was successful, warm and constructive", Karapetyan said. According to him, a consensus was also reached with the Georgian side upon a view that the Interstate relations should be viewed in the regional context as well with usage of the possibilities of the two states.
To note, the former Georgian military road through "Upper Lars" PPC, became the only land way providing connection between Armenia and Russia since 1990s. The PPC is periodically closed in winter because of snow slips, and in spring because of mudflows. The Armenian Prime Minster Karen Karepetyan spoke about the necessity of creating an alternate road to "Upper Lars" during the Governmental meeting on January 26. As alternative, demanding a political decision of the states of the region, may serve the roads connecting Georgia with Russia through conflict zones of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
