Zarmine Zeituntsyan: Growth in tourism sector in Armenia amounted to 5.7% in 2016

ArmInfo. In 2016, the growth in tourism in Armenia amounted to 5.7%. Head of the State Committee for Tourism Zarmine Zeituntsyan stated this at a press conference in Yerevan.

"31% of this growth came from the influx of Iranian tourists, in 144 160 Iranian tourists arrived in Armenia in 2016 and 181 000 in 2016", she said. According to Zeytuntsyan, growth is due to several factors.  "First of all, Iran is Armenia's immediate neighbor, and Armenia is interesting for Iranian tourists both in terms of entertainment and cultural and historical tourism," she said.

At the same time, Zeytuntsyan noted that an agreement has been reached with private companies that provide Iranian tourists with information materials at the border checkpoints in the Iranian language. Also, an agreement was reached with the Police and Ministry of Health that the latter pay more attention to Iranian tourists who come to Armenia by car at night.
