ArmInfo. 40% of the total amount of declared financial investments in the amount of $ 120 million has already been invested in the agrarian sphere of Armenia, Agriculture Minister Ignaty Arakelyan said on July 10 at a meeting with journalists. According to the minister, active work is under way at this stage to lay intensive gardens and create modern greenhouses.
At the same time, in January-May, the agriculture of Armenia registered a decline of 3.5%. In particular, crop production decreased by 16.8%, which is mainly due to natural and climatic conditions. "The long winter did not allow agricultural producers growing agricultural crops in the open ground to use the period," the minister explained.
Meanwhile, cattle breeding recorded an increase of 1.3%, which, according to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, is not surprising, since a large program was implemented in the sphere with the World Bank funds for equipping pastures with water and developing cattle breeding in rural areas. According to the minister, the growth of the area for 2017 is planned at the level of 3.6%. However, refraining from specific forecasts, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture expressed the hope that the data on the situation for August will be more optimistic. "At the moment, we can not say how 3.6% growth is possible for Armenia's agriculture, but there is a forecast and we will do everything to achieve it," Ignaty Arakelyan said.
