Earlier, on April 10, RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said at a meeting dedicated to the effectiveness of the state non-profit organization Sevan National Park that the state should use all mechanisms to prevent lawlessness in the Sevan National Park. Karen Karapetyan noted the importance of increasing the effective operation of the park by instructing to submit proposals on its development and transformation into a structure pursuing the goal of making a profit. "It is necessary to apply the state mechanism very strictly in relation to violators, get rid of all that is illegal. It is also important to develop and apply the concept of activating this territory in order to make a profit," Karen Karapetyan said.
Yet on March 23 2017, Karen Karapetyan noted at the government meeting that Lake Sevan and adjacent territories have not only key environmental and social significance, but also serious economic potential, in particular, from the point of view of tourism development. At the same time, he said, today these territories are not always used effectively, given the special status of the area around Lake Sevan, as well as the need to ensure the stable development of the Sevan National Park.
