ArmInfo. Armenia and China will sign agreement on safe using of nuclear power in peaceful purposes. The proposal on concluding agreement was approved at a meeting of Armenian Government on August 17.
According to the justification for the project, the conclusion of the agreement will allow to establish cooperation between Armenia and China in the field of nuclear energy, will serve exclusively peaceful purposes for the use of nuclear energy. In addition, it is noted that nuclear energy will not be used to create nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices or for other strategic purposes.
In the process of cooperation, both countries will be guided by the principles of UN Treaty of July 1, 1968. "On the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons", and also undertake not to transfer these devices, materials, dual-use technologies or their derivatives related to explosive devices and not export them to a third country without the written consent of the other party to the agreement. This agreement regulates the terms of trade ties and bilateral mutual assistance programs in the process of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, protection and distribution of intellectual property rights.
The decision to draft Agreement with China was taken on June 7, 2017 during a meeting with President of Armenia with the aim of monitoring and enhancing the effectiveness of current relations between Armenia and China. To recall, Armenia is considering the construction of a new nuclear power unit with a capacity of up to 600 MW. The technology of construction of which have, among other things, Chinese companies.
