ArmInfo. Armenian brandy is associated with Russia, which means that it loses its competitiveness against the background of Georgian brandy outside of Russia. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Union of Armenian winemakers Avag Harutyunyan at a press conference on August 18.
According to him, CIS countries, in particular Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Panland, other countries of Eastern Europe, were traditional sales markets for Armenian brandy, but the Russian-Georgian war affected the volume of the Armenian brandy production. In particular, Ukraine, which supported Georgia, provided privileges to Georgian partners in the export of alcoholic beverages. "The same happened in Poland. And in general, Georgia has preferential regimes with many countries of the world," the expert added. At the same time, he noted that the volumes of Georgian alcohol on the Russian market also show continued growth.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the volume of Armenian brandy production in the first half of 2017 was 13.9 million liters, with annual growth of 60.9%.
